Strawberries

Xylitol is an organic compound found in the fibers of many fruits and vegetables, and can be extracted from various berries, oats, and mushrooms, as well as fibrous material such as corn husks and sugar cane bagasse, and birch. “Kiss Your Dentist Goodbye” is an incredible book, highly recommend adding xylitol to your daily routine.

Deep

Sometimes riding the wave isn’t enough, other times you have to dig deep. Whatever happens try not to get thrown over the falls.

Journal

If it’s all about memories and remembering with little time spent on the present, recording thoughts or images may assist in processing the unimaginable. Trauma has found it’s way into everyone’s life, nature is harsh, so survival is the goal. Healing happens at unexpected times.

Bee Propolis

Acting as an immunostimulant, propolis has powerful antibiotic and antifungal properties, and is used for the relief of various conditions, including inflammations, viral diseases, ulcers, and burns. Personal success stories using propolis include: my husband used it to heal a spider bite, my father used it to heal chigger bites, and my friend used propolis to heal a lesion caused from removing cancerous skin cells. I’ve also heard of propolis being used as an alternative to deal with the new strain of antibiotic-resistant staph.

Sky Scraper

Skew lines are two lines that do not intersect and are not parallel. Equivalently, they are lines that are not coplanar. Lines that are coplanar either intersect or are parallel, so skew lines exist only in three or more dimensions.

The Dreaming

A common term within the animist creation narrative of indigenous Australians for a personal, or group, creation and for what may be understood as the “timeless time” of formative creation and perpetual creating. In addition, the term applies to places and localities on indigenous Australian traditional land where the uncreated creation spirits and totemic ancestors, or genii loci, reside.

The One

Infinity refers to something without any limit, and is a concept relevant in a number of fields, predominantly mathematics and physics. The term in the English language derives from Latin infinitas, which is translated as “unboundedness”. John Wallis is credited with introducing the infinity symbol (sometimes called the Lemniscate) in 1655 in his De sectionibus conicis.

Bloom HD

Recently we downloaded a cool application to our iPad called Bloom HD for our one-year-old son to play. Beginning with a blank color --- every time you touch the screen it creates a sound and a visual. I took a couple photos with my iPhone to demonstrate the coolness factor!

Virgin Gorda

Sailing in BVI we visited an unusual geologic formation known as “The Baths” located on the southern end of the island. Christopher Columbus is said to have named the island “The Fat Virgin” since the island’s profile on the horizon looks like a fat woman lying on her side. Wow, he sure was dreaming, must have been lonely out there conquering new lands. I highly recommend checking out the now five-star resort Bitter End Yacht Club.

Law

1937 Marihuana Tax Act preceded by mass hype and hysteria fed to the American public by Harry Anslinger, a dubious U.S. politician who worked with Dow Chemicals and Dupont in the 1920's and 30's, to demonize marijuana and place it in an illegal category, in order to get their new "synthetic rope" on the market. In truth, the natural hemp fiber is to this day, superior in strength, quality and durability.

Chester

At the time I was into unstretched canvas, as well as adding strips of canvas to add texture. My friend’s bulldog was my first animal model. Although the commission never came to fruition, it was an honor to capture the essence of Chester in paint.

Nude

The wearing of clothing is an exclusively human characteristic. Being stripped of one’s clothing is quite different than never having clothing at all. We all began nude, only after we are clothed and subsequently stripped are we actually considered naked.

The chaos of life contained in shades of experience. Rich hues mingle, absorbed in their own vibrancy, perhaps finding a complimentary dance partner. Possessing a unique resonance, the vortex of sound is often times seen in colors.

Passages

Hidden or secret tunnels used for stealthy travel are no novelty. Such passageways have allowed occupants to enter or exit buildings without being seen, helping people evade capture, smuggle goods, or carry out illegal activities. If disappearing behind a faux mirrored door is illegal---I’m guilty!

Light It Up

Upon requesting their best tequila our waiter suggested we start with the tasty tourista appetizer of tortillas and burnt queso. Many cocktails later we were almost tempted to light up a cigar from this statue’s generous flame. Mexico at it’s finest...tourista finest that is.

Compassion

Buddhist tradition speaks of two levels of bodhichitta, or compassionate mind. On the relative level, compassion consists of intentional acts of kindness. On an absolute level, bodhichitta requires a total recognition of the nondual nature of reality. Abiding in the selflessness of our true nature, compassionate actions occur spontaneously without thought or premeditation, as expressions of enlightened awareness.

Alpaca or Llama

Llamas appear to have originated from the central plains of North America about 40 million years ago. They migrated to South America about 3 million years ago. Alpacas are considerably smaller than llamas, and unlike llamas, they were not bred to be beasts of burden but were bred specifically for their fiber. Alpaca fleece is a lustrous and silky natural fiber. While similar to sheep’s wool, it is warmer, not prickly, and bears no lanolin, which makes it hypoallergenic.

Chocolate

The chocolate residue found in an early ancient Maya pot in Río Azul, Guatemala, suggests the Maya were drinking chocolate around 400 AD. The sweet chocolate residue found in jars from the site of Puerto Escondido in Honduras from around 1100 BC is the earliest found evidence of the use of cacao to date. Cocoa solids contain alkaloids such as theobromine and phenethylamine, which have physiological effects on the body and have been linked to serotonin levels in the brain.

Moon Dog

Today there is a full moon in Scorpio resulting in a moon dog or moondog (scientific name paraselene, plural paraselenae, i.e. "beside the moon"). This is a relatively rare bright circular spot on a lunar halo caused by the refraction of moonlight by hexagonal-plate-shaped ice crystals in cirrus or cirrostratus clouds.

Lily Reef

In Buddhist symbolism the lotus represents purity of the body, speech, and mind as if floating above the muddy waters of attachment and desire. A unique fabric from the lotus plant fibers is produced only at Inle lake, Union of Myanmar and is used for weaving special robes for Buddha images called kya thingahn (lotus robe).

Turn Mayan 2012

Non-ecological theories of Maya decline are divided into several subcategories, such as overpopulation, foreign invasion, peasant revolt, and the collapse of key trade routes. Ecological hypotheses include environmental disaster, epidemic disease, and climate change. There is evidence that the Maya population exceeded the carrying capacity of the environment including exhaustion of agricultural potential and overhunting of megafauna. Some scholars have recently theorized that an intense 200 year drought led to the collapse of Maya civilization.

Trees of Life

The direction taken depends wholly on the question: What kind of tree is your life? Is it full of sunshine, fish, clouds, or chili peppers? How quickly too the path may change. Roots firm in the ground, a trunk holding the body of life, limbs stretching for the stars.
